Indonesia is a convenient country for tourists and expats. Various types of visas allow legal entry into the country. However, we recommend applying for them in advance, following all the necessary regulations.
In this article, you’ll learn about the main types of visas and how to obtain them.

How to get a visa on arrival (VOA)
People arriving in Indonesia for up to 30 days require a Visa on Arrival (VOA). This is the most popular tourist visa.
The process of obtaining a VOA:
- Upon arrival at Ngurah Rai Airport (Bali Island), you need to find a counter to obtain a visa on arrival
- Complete the visa application and pay the fee. The visa costs 500,000 Indonesian rupiah (approximately $33).
- Please provide your passport, which must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
- After checking your documents and paying the fee, you will receive a visa that allows you to stay in Indonesia for up to 30 days with the possibility of a single extension for a similar period.

How to pay for a VOA visa in advance
To avoid tedious queues at the airport, you can pay for your visa in advance using a special online service. This will significantly speed up the process and allow you to proceed straight to passport control.
How to pay for a visa online:
- Visit the official Indonesian visa services website evisa.imigrasi.go.id and complete the required fields. The website has an intuitive interface.
- Next, upload a photo of your passport according to the instructions and fill in your information.

- Pay the visa fee using a foreign bank card. You will then receive an email confirmation.
- Save the document to your smartphone or print it out. Upon arrival, you’ll be able to proceed through the autogate (if you have a biometric passport).
An online visa application must be submitted no earlier than 14 days before entry, but no later than 48 hours.
How to apply for a tourist visa at the consulate
If you plan to stay in Indonesia for more than 60 days or want to avoid visa extensions upon arrival, you can apply for a tourist visa in advance through the Indonesian consulate or embassy in your country.
Stages of visa application at the consulate:
- Submit your application to the Indonesian Consulate by filling out a special form and providing your passport (valid for at least six months)
- Prepare a copy of your round-trip tickets and proof of financial solvency (bank statement or employment certificate).
- Pay the visa fee (usually around $50–$100 depending on the visa type)
- Please allow 5 to 10 business days for your visa to be processed.
How to obtain a single-entry visa type B211A
If your trip is not limited to tourism, but includes social or business purposes, you may need a B211A visa, which is intended for a single entry into Indonesia.
The main steps to obtain a B211A visa:
- Contact the Indonesian consulate or use an agency that specializes in visa processing.
- Collect the necessary documents: passport, invitation from an Indonesian organization or individual, completed application
- Pay the visa fee, which usually varies depending on the purpose of the visit and the length of stay (around $200–$300)
- Expect your visa within a few working days. This visa allows you to stay in the country for up to 60 days, with the possibility of extension.
What documents, besides a visa, might be required for a trip to Indonesia?
To travel to Indonesia, in addition to a visa, you’ll need to prepare a number of documents. Not all of them will be necessary, but for a long-awaited vacation or business transaction, it’s better to be on the safe side.
- Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of entry. Don’t try to “slip through” the border; renew your passport in advance if necessary.
- Return tickets are required to confirm your stay. If you’re unsure how long you’ll be staying, use special websites that only offer ticket bookings.
- Confirmation of accommodation reservation - a hotel or other accommodation option will do
- Proof of financial solvency - a bank statement or income certificate translated into English
- Medical insurance - although this is not a mandatory document, we recommend purchasing insurance for the entire period of your stay
Are there any direct flights to Indonesia now?
Direct flights from Russia to Indonesia have recently become available, but their availability is currently limited. Tourists typically fly via connecting cities in Asia or the Middle East, such as Dubai, Singapore, or Kuala Lumpur.
Currently, direct flights from Moscow to Denpasar (Bali) are only offered by Aeroflot, but convenient connecting flights are always available.
